Last fall, the Oregon Court of Appeals invalidated a longstanding ban against people with concealed handgun licenses (CHLs) bringing concealed weapons on college campuses. In March, the Oregon State Board of Higher Education issued a new policy prohibiting the possession of firearms by university students, employees, contractors, event attendees, and users of university property, including people with concealed handgun licenses. Our guess is that gun-rights extremists will file suit over that new policy as well.
We need to show our school administrators that Oregonians do not want guns on our college campuses.
Handguns carried by CHL holders do not make college campuses safer. The International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA) has concluded that "'concealed carry' initiatives do not make campuses safer. There is no credible evidence to suggest that the presence of students carrying concealed weapons would reduce violence on our college campuses." [1]
Help keep Oregon colleges safer by signing this petition.
Let's take a stand and declare that "Schools are no place for guns."

I believe that schools in our state have a responsibility to promote a safe environment for students, faculty, and staff. I will feel less safe if hidden, loaded guns are allowed in schools.
I stand with Campus Law Enforcement (IACLEA) who believe that “‘conceal carry’ initiatives do not make campuses safer.” [1]
I think Oregon schools, including elementary schools and colleges, should be gun free for the safety of the students.
